Where Our Data Comes From

Transparency matters. Here’s exactly how we build and maintain our physician directory.

1

CMS NPPES Database

All physician data originates from the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES), maintained by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This is the same federal registry used by hospitals, insurers, and Medicare.

2

Monthly Updates

CMS releases updated NPPES data every month. We process the full data dissemination file to capture new providers, address changes, deactivations, and specialty updates.

3

Doctor Verification

Physicians can claim their profile on DoctorAdvisor.com to update their information directly. Claimed profiles display a verified badge and can include additional details like practice descriptions and office hours.

Common Questions

Is this really free for patients?

Yes, 100% free. DoctorAdvisor.com is funded by healthcare providers who pay for premium visibility. Patients never pay anything to search, view profiles, or contact doctors.

Why should I trust this data?

Our data comes directly from the NPPES — the same federal registry used by Medicare, hospitals, and insurance companies. Every profile includes a link to the official CMS NPI Registry so you can verify independently.

How current is the information?

We update our database monthly from the CMS data dissemination file. Doctors who have claimed their profile can update their information in real-time, ensuring even greater accuracy.

Can I book appointments through DoctorAdvisor?

Currently, DoctorAdvisor.com is a directory and search tool. We provide the doctor’s phone number and office address so you can contact them directly. Online booking integration is planned for a future update.

What if a doctor’s information is wrong?

If you notice incorrect information, the doctor can claim their profile and update it directly. You can also contact us and we’ll flag the listing for review at the next monthly update.

How is this different from Google or Yelp?

Google and Yelp rely on self-reported and crowdsourced data. DoctorAdvisor.com uses federal NPI registry data — every doctor in our directory has an active NPI registered with CMS. We cover 1.2 million physicians, many of whom have no Google Business Profile at all.
